Mixed Messages Being Sent To UK Schools About Corona Virus
As of the 16 February 2020 there have been 3,109 tests on the UK population for the Corona Virus, with 9 positive cases confirmed in the UK.
This news is being met with concerns as UK residents start asking questions about the real threat of the virus to the UK.
The virus appears to be spreading at an alarming rate in various other countries around the world, particularly Asian countries where the virus originated.
Health officials have been told to tell British schools that they do not need to close or send anyone home if there is a suspected case of Corona.
Health bodies are stating that there is no need for special restrictions for schools if there is a suspected Corona case within the school, even if tests for the virus are being carried out.
All cases in schools will be handled individually, with health protection teams saying they will speak to head teachers and outline any actions to be taken.
Several schools around the UK have taken matters into their own hands, and authorised the ‘self-isolation’ of any families that want to keep their child home.
This is being supported by health authorities that are telling the wider UK population that id they have flu-like symptoms they should stay at home for a fortnight.
This goes against the advice being given to schools, and outlines some holes in the advice being given by health officials.
If children are displaying flu-like symptoms, should they follow they schools given advice, or the advice to the UK public?
Many agree that if they think anyone in their family has the corona virus they will be keeping them in isolation to make sure no one else around them gets sick aswell.
Experts have outlined that once the total virus figure in the UK reaches 100 people infected, then more serious action will have to be taken.
Winter weather has also affected the rate of spread of the virus in the West.
