Year Six Have a Special Weekend Trip to the British Museum

Year six had a great day on their trip down at the British Museum last weekend where they spent quite a while discovering the various categories available. There was also an event being held the same day which all of the children decided to participate in. With the help of experts and some great technology, the children had a sixty-minute session where they learnt how to create their own comic which was inspired by the collection of Japanese Manga at the British Museum. After everyone has finished their piece and finalized what they want they can print it out and take it home as a memory.

Children were then given an exclusive tour around the many Egyptian artefacts at the museum. In the Egyptian gallery, there were plenty of sculptures and carvings of various powerful kings and Egyptian gods that were worshipped at the time, some of which still are. The various sculptures all come with a story to them and it gave everyone an introduction into the world of prehistoric Egypt.

Lunch

During the lunch break, the students were taken to the North Sea Fish Restaurant where they reenergized themselves with a great plate of fish and chips with some to go. After spending some time having a chat and relaxing we continued our walk back to the bus stop where we took a ride back to the school.

Performance

After lunch, we finished our day by performing our own skit where the students took on the role of various famous people from the prehistoric Egyptian era to learn about the differences daily practices as compared to the present. Before they started the skit, students were split into groups of four where they took some time to discuss what they think the household items and clothing should be depending on what they learnt at the museum earlier that day. A lot of the participants were able to put the information they gathered from the tour to good use with the final result being pretty accurate and them not needing much help. The children then played out the skit after a quick rehearsal and some help from our drama teacher who gave them a few quick tips before they went up on stage. The children who did not participate in the skit were asked to guess who the participants were playing as and to have one fact ready along with the name.

The day we spent out was quite productive overall and loads of fun as well. We hope to be taking another bus down very soon.
